Building Self-Confidence in Teens with Acne

Acne Tips for parents

We know that you take acne seriously

As a parent, watching your teenager struggle with acne is often difficult. Knowing how to support them and making sure they get the right advice in a world obsessed with social media can also be a minefield. 1,2

In a stage of life where teenagers are already self-conscious and want to fit in, acne is just another thing that they have to contend with. It’s better to find out how to treat acne sooner rather than later. Early treatment will help prevent complications, such as scarring. 1, 3

A great place to start is for you to give them a Benzaderm Starter Kit. It includes a cleanser, a treatment gel and a moisturiser to make it easy to follow dermatologist recommendations 4

The Galderma team would like to empower you with facts,  so that you can guide your teens in their choices.

Encourage a skincare routine

Dermatologists recommend a daily routine of cleansing, moisturising and treating spots. Most teenagers don’t like to be

told much by their parents, but if you can encourage this habit, it’s a good start. 2,4

Remind your teens to be patient with acne treatment routine

Teens often forget to use their treatment. That’s OK, a gentle reminder, which is not accusatory can go a long way. Remember that it takes a while for the acne cycle to be broken, so it could take 6-12 weeks before your teens see a result they were hoping for. Encourage them to hang in there! 5, 2

Acne is one of your teenager’s worse nightmares

Be positive

We know how complicated it can be to be a teenager and acne can really take its toll on your teen’s self-esteem, body image and social interactions. 6 Don’t let them perpetuate the myths in their minds (Click though to myths) Reassure them that a regular treatment routine will pay off.; 1,5

It is important that both you and your teens are on the same page, so keep the dialogue open. Asking open-ended questions, listening and letting them know that you want to work with them to find a solution to their skin problem can go a long way.

Galderma has solutions that work.  Benzac AC 5 Gel has been scientifically formulated with benzoyl peroxide to effectively treat mild teenage acne
